Your boss is probably getting their game on so why don’t you?
Hey hey,
Have you ever come across this quote?
“The opposite of play is not work; the opposite of play is depression.”
-Dr. Stuart Brown (from his book, Play)
Here’s someone who has devoted much of their career to the study of play and the idea that humans are “built to play and built through play.” And yet, play is often seen as unprofessional, childish, or immature.
So this week, I want to challenge that notion! Here are a few fun facts from around that web that show play does belong at the office.
- Much like looking at videos of kittens, you can increase focus and refresh your mental state by taking a mini-game break during the day
- There was a 20 year study on 23 employed gamers that showed gaming can transfer skills into the workplace
- Back in 2020, a study found that people were already playing games at work, and most of them were managers
Don’t let your boss have all the fun! Why not take a game break this afternoon? Or every day this week? Here are some great free to play games, straight from the browser:
- Vystery – like Wordle, but for images? Reveal portions of the image and try to guess what it is before you run out of steps.
- Bracket City – A fun verbal reasoning and pattern recognition game. Get a redacted piece of information and try to figure out what it says based on the clues inside the brackets. Highly recommend doing the tutorial!
- 2048 – Slide numbered tiles of the same amount to merge them. Try to get to 2048! Don’t sleep on math…this game is too good.

Already playing games at work? Noice! Hit reply and tell me about some of your favs! Or tell me what you think about these 3!
Go get your game on!
Lissy
